Start with the exact station

A station can fit between two pieces of furniture while remaining awkward to use. Before ordering a robot vacuum, separate the station’s physical dimensions from the space needed to approach it, open it and maintain it. This is a planning guide based on manufacturer documentation, not a report from a Robots at Home household test.

Write down the exact robot, station and regional package you are considering. A photograph of a similar dock is not enough to establish its dimensions or service access. Save the relevant installation guide with its model identifier and revision, then mark any missing measurement as an open question for the seller.

Separate the footprint from the approach

iRobot’s preparation page for Roomba Combo 10 Max specifies a hard floor, a location away from direct sunlight, power and Wi-Fi access, and clearance around the dock. Those are instructions for that product. They illustrate why a dock is more than a rectangle on the floor; they are not universal installation dimensions for every robot.

On a simple room sketch, draw the station and the clearance required by its own manual. Add nearby doors, a chair in its ordinary position and the walking route people actually use. Check the layout with doors open as well as closed. Keep manufacturer requirements separate from your own additional convenience margin.

Rehearse the maintenance movement

Roborock identifies clean-water, dirty-water and dust containers on the dock families covered by its cited support page. For your selected model, find out how its own containers are removed and what clearance that motion requires. Do not assume that every station opens or lifts in the same direction, or that a product photo shows the complete service movement.

Our proposed exercise is to mark the intended position with a paper footprint and describe each maintenance step without moving electrical equipment. Can you reach the lid, remove the container and carry it to the appropriate place? A shelf above the station or a narrow corner may matter even when the base fits. Follow the actual manual when equipment arrives.

Keep the household route visible

Consider the station in the room’s ordinary state, including people passing, doors moving and furniture being used. Record where the approved power connection will be and how the manufacturer says to handle its cable. Do not solve an unsuitable location by improvising a power arrangement or ignoring a stated clearance. A different location or station may be the more useful choice.

In a fictional layout, the station fits below a shelf but the water container cannot be lifted out. The conclusion is simply that the proposed position fails the maintenance check. It does not show that the robot is unreliable or that another model will fit. Ask for the missing dimensions before making that comparison.

Leave a small installation record

Keep five items together: exact configuration, manual reference, measured space, unresolved questions and the final chosen position. Once the robot is installed according to its instructions, observe ordinary departure and return separately from your planning exercise. A paper template checks geometry; actual repeated operation is needed to learn how the installed system behaves.
